ZPPA suspends a private company ~

Paul Shalala – The Zambia Public Procurement Authority -ZPPA- has suspended a private company, Marshall’s Electronics Limited, from bidding on government contracts for breach of contract.

Marshall’s Electronics Limited, which had been contracted by the Ministry of Information and Media and Zambia News and Information and Services -ZANIS- to supply electronics, failed to deliver on time despite full payment.

ZPPA Managing Director IDAH CHELLA said Marshall’s Electronics Limited has been suspended for one year for underperformance despite paying 339,000 Kwacha in full at the start of the contract.

Mrs. CHELLA says that the company has only provided ZANIS and the Ministry of Information and Media with electronic equipment worth 159,000 Kwacha, which is half of the contract amount.

She warned suppliers, who participate in public procurement, to fulfill their contractual obligations to avoid loss of business or being suspended from public procurement.

Mrs CHELLA said so in Lusaka during the second quarter press conference where she announced that during the reporting period, six investigations had been carried out.

She announced that among them was the investigation into the importation of wooden poles by ZESCO and the non-performance of contractual obligations which was cleared.
