If you want to start and build a successful business, it definitely helps to have mentors and role models. There’s no better place to look than Inc. 5000, an annual list of America’s fastest growing private companies.
The 2019 list was released this morning and Freestar, a technology company that helps publishers maximize ad revenue, took the top spot.
His enviable numbers include:
- A list of 300 clients in the digital publishing space
- $37 million in revenue in 2018
- Revenue growth of 36,680% since 2015
Not bad for a company whose co-founders’ first product was a calendar featuring swimsuit designs from Arizona State University in 2004.
As my colleague Leigh Buchanan writes, this isn’t simply “a list of America’s largest or most profitable companies. Rather, it’s a list of the most promising. The excitement lies in see what they do next.”
Here are some of the other resources you’ll find posted today:
With its #1 ranking, Freestar, along with the other winners, are now part of an esteemed group.
Among those that Inc. has included on its list over the years – long before they were household names – are companies such as: Apple, Southwest Airlines, Sonic Drive-In (then called Sonic Industries), Nike and FedEx (then known as Federal Express name).
Of course, making the list — or even reaching number 1 — doesn’t guarantee long-term success. Just recently, we learned that Loot Crate, which was number 1 a few years ago, filed for bankruptcy.
That’s the trick of building something big. There is always the risk that it will not happen. If it wasn’t, everyone would be doing this.
But not everyone does that. You do (or at least aspire to). And that’s why these companies deserve the accolades they’ll receive for making the list.
