Business aviation company Jetflite is a first to offer low-emission private business flights in Finland. Jetflite is committed to sustainable aviation and is now taking the first steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel ™. In its neat form, the fuel can reduce life cycle greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% * compared to the use of fossil jet fuel. Jetflite’s first low-emission flight will take place in May 2021.
Jetflite, owned by a large Finnish industrial conglomerate Wihuri Group, specializes in business flights, group charter and air ambulance. Jetflite also operates aircraft and provides air freight services. Jetflite wishes to meet the need of its customers to increase their contribution to the fight against climate change as part of the Frankly Wihuri sustainability program.
“Flying has been a challenge during the pandemic due to increased regulations and closed borders. However, the number of flights has remained high because we can perform evacuation and air ambulance flights. With vaccinations in place and countries opening up, we anticipate that the need for business aviation will begin to increase. Meanwhile, we want to be able to offer low-emission flights and help our customers significantly reduce the carbon footprint of their business flights, ”said Jan Lindholm, Sales Manager at Jetflite.
Jetflite has five aircraft in its fleet. The company also has an extensive network of partner operators offering a total of 600 to 700 flights per year, under normal circumstances.
The partnership supports ambitious climate goals
The aviation industry has already taken steps in the right direction by committing to the goal of carbon neutral growth from 2020. Neste is committed to helping the aviation industry achieve this goal.
“Neste and Jetflite have been working together for more than 5 years for the delivery of fuel for flights to Helsinki airport in Finland. This is now our first step in our partnership to reduce the carbon footprint of business flights offered by Jetflite. Neste MY SAF is already available at many airports in Europe, North America and Asia and it is a great pleasure to be able to offer it to a private business flight operator in Finland as well. The use of fuel provides an immediate solution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from flight. It is fully compatible with existing jet engine technology and fuel delivery infrastructure. Therefore, no further investment or modification of the aircraft or the fuel delivery infrastructure is necessary, ”says Tuomas Kulola, Head of Sales, Marketing and Services, Neste.
Neste continues to make sustainable aviation fuel available to airlines but also to companies, public institutions and other organizations with ambitious climate commitments. The partnership between Neste and Jetflite and the recently announced collaboration with Finnair serve as showcases for other companies to reduce emissions from business air travel.
In the United States and Europe, Neste’s annual sustainable aviation fuel supply capacity is currently 100,000 tonnes. With the Singapore refinery expansion underway, Neste will have the capacity to produce more than 1.5 million tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel in 2023, including the recently announced additional investment in Rotterdam.
