Always ready to rise to a challenge, Temper has won a national competition to create a major piece of commissioned public art. His sculpture is all set to form the centrepiece of Birmingham's The Cube development, designed by the visionary Ken Shuttleworth and Make architects and is destined to become one of the UK's most iconic buildings. Competition for the commission was extremely strong with Temper, who has never worked with sculpture before, taking the honours over an impressive shortlist including some of the nation's best-known public sculptors. "I was genuinely blown away when I saw the plans for The Cube. I am a big fan of Ken Shuttleworth anyway, but to imagine this new building sitting in Birmingham with my work inside is overwhelming. I can't wait." With a design inspired by Birmingham's heritage, The Cube is already one of the UK's most talked about buildings and Temper's winning design will undoubtedly be equally thought provoking. The jury was unanimous in its decision and his creation will be the main focus of the atrium, twisting up seventeen floors through the buildings core. But don't jump on the plane to Birmingham just yet as The Cube and Temper's work won't be completed until 2009/2010 but believe us, it's going to be well worth the wait.
